Chest lock

Germany, late 16th/early 17th century

Malleable iron. Wrought sheet lock cover decorated with a mermaid in the centre; the keyhole is covered with a small plate. Inside is a two-lever bolt mechanism with an octagonal case for a hollow-shank key. Decorated with grooving.
